  • HENRY K: Blazing A Trail Beyond The Underground

Controlled chaos is the best way to describe Henry K. From the meticulous precision of Gundam model building to the raw energy of the skatepark and the carefully crafted sonic explosions of his DJ sets, Henry K is a master of controlled explosions. Now, Breakaway Dallas  will be the most enormous detonation yet.  Flashing neon arrows scrolled across the screen, demanding precision, speed, and rhythm. Henry K, a fifth-grade maestro of the dance pad, stood transfixed, feet tapping frantically to Dance Dance Revolution  on a PlayStation 2. "I was stuck in a trance and could not stop playing while everyone was outside," he recalls. The machine pumped a relentless blend of high-energy techno, bass-heavy remixes, and breakneck BPMs. The metallic scent of warm electronics filled the room, and every step Henry hit in sync with the music sent a jolt of adrenaline through him. It wasn't just a game-it was an awakening. Dance Dance Revolution's soundtrack burrowed deep into his soul, later fusing with UGK's syrupy sound, speed garage's skittering percussion, and hardstyle's raw aggression. That night, he walked away sweaty, exhilarated, and unknowingly set on a path defining his sonic identity.  Henry K blends trap, hardstyle, UK garage, and happy hardcore, flipping expectations on their heads. Basslines rumble, synths soar, and crowds bounce. He treats every set like a controlled detonation: timed, placed, and impactful. "It's all a social experiment," he says, "make what you love, play what you want."  He thrives on controlled chaos. Trap pulses and hardstyle drops are all timed for seamless mixing. His sets build like a film, not a sprint. "It's a roller coaster," he adds. "Start slowly, simmer, then crank it." Dallas rarely hears Henry K's raw, high-voltage sound. Like opening for Control Freak , performing felt less like a set and more like a homecoming - instincts took over. "It was amazing," he said. "I was in my natural element." He tested unreleased tracks, gauging the crowd's reactions. Each set fuels the next, pushing him to experiment and stretch the limits of what a DJ could be.  Henry K assembled intricate Gundam models long before he fine-tuned basslines and layered synths. Each piece demands patience - a trait that mirrors the precision he pours into his music. "It's all about patience," he says. "I spent a lot of time by myself growing up, which helped me learn much about patience and where it's due." The same obsessive attention to detail guides his production process. "That's how it is with producing. I always go for the smaller details because I want it perfect."  When he's not crafting miniatures or beats, he is outside, skating - another practice in persistence - falling, scraping up his hands and knees, popping right back up. "As for skating, every time you fall, you just keep trying until you get it right," he says. The mindset carries over to his career. He'll keep refining and pushing forward if now isn't his time. "I'm just going to keep doing me until it is." Breakaway Dallas offers the perfect playground for his bold risks and genre-smashing. "It's about the ride," he says. Years in the rave scene taught him the difference between forgettable and lasting sets. "I know good from bad," he says, "Take risks, don't look back. Some won't like it, but someone will stay on that ride." Releasing music matters. A resonant track can change everything. Henry K understands that traction is about impact. And that's what Breakaway Dallas represents: an opportunity and a launchpad.  "I'm grateful for participating in the nation's largest touring festival alongside other Dallas-based DJs," he says. "I'm hoping this gives us exposure to the Breakaway team. That way, we can play in other states."  With eyes set on bigger stages and broader audiences, Henry K envisions this year as a breakthrough year - one where his music lands on major labels and his name moves from local lineups to festival main stages. Each track he releases, every set he plays, builds toward something more significant. "I see it as a way to make a name for myself as a small artist and to reach the potential I want," he says. "The sound I'm pushing out might draw attention elsewhere."  He knows the right ears are out there. It's only a matter of time before they tune in. And as that sound reverberates into the Breakaway Dallas crowd, one thing is clear: Henry K's movement has only just begun.

  • DEA Finds Her Frequency Through Her Musical Metamorphosis

The decks hum to life, a thumping bass resonates as DEA takes control.   The crowd, a sea of anticipation, surges forward as her hands dance across the controls. The music explodes—hard-hitting, fluid, effortless. It's a stark contrast to just two years ago, when she sat, uncertain, in a DJ class, struggling to find the right button. Now, she's sharing stages with industry titans. DEA is all about mixing tracks and her life. For nearly a decade, she poured herself into the corporate grind, and continues to do so to this day - but back-to-back DJ sets on the weekend offset back-to-back meetings during the week. “In January 2023, after a 10.5-hour Saturday meeting and finishing an 80-hour work week, I set out to find some balance,” DEA said. Burnout had settled into her bones. She craved something that would spark creativity in her day job again. DJing felt like the perfect escape. The Fast-Track to DEA’s Meteoric Rise Since her first gig in April 2023, her passion has propelled her through a whirlwind of club sets, festival slots, and supporting renowned acts like Loud Luxury  and MADDS , even an impromptu back-to-back with DLMT . But the road from bedroom to stage wasn’t always smooth - her early gigs were trial and error. “A few months in and less-than-stellar gigs later, I realized - turns out you’re not an expert DJ after a six-week class,” DEA admits. That realization pushed her back into the classroom, enrolling in The DJ School Dallas’ intermediate 102 course, taught by Titan and Souljah , to sharpen her skills. “Two years later, I’m still learning new things daily!” It wasn’t just about the technical precision; it was about feeling the crowd, reading the energy in the room, and dropping the bass at the right time. Learning through experience mattered, but structure training made a world of difference. “I love that The DJ School made us play in public at a club for our graduation,” she recalls. “It’s a great way to get your foot in the door with local talent agencies and promoters.” That real-world experience gave her confidence and placed her directly in front of the right people, proving she could hold her own behind the decks. And now, she’s on a trajectory that shows no signs of slowing down. Using Music As A Lifeline Growing up as an introvert, DEA found sanctuary in music. Frequent moves turned her into a perpetual “new kid,” a cycle that made classrooms feel like battlefields and lunchrooms a maze of unfamiliar faces. But music? That remained a constant. “Growing up, I moved around a lot, and as an extreme introvert, being the new kid was tough! Oftentimes, I turned to music to feel some sense of consistency and familiarity.”   That connection ran more profound than just pressing play on a stereo. Music was in her blood. “My Father shreds on the electric guitar, and he first taught me how to read music around the same time I was learning to read words.” Before she could fully grasp the weight of a book, she could already decode the language of notes and rhythm.  Her early influences painted a picture as eclectic as her upbringing - RuPaul , Green Day , Madonna , and eventually EDM. “My earliest memories include singing my favorite songs, ‘Cheerio Girl' (i.e., ‘Material Girl’ by Madonna ) and ‘Supermodel (You Better Work)’ by RuPaul at the top of my lungs. I credit my diverse, ‘genre-dimensional’ music taste to the extraordinary environments and people I’ve encountered throughout my upbringing.” That genre-fluidity would later become a defining trait in her DJ career.  DEA Does Breakaway Playing Breakaway Dallas  is a milestone for DEA. The festival, packed with heavyweight international artists, marks her first major festival slot. But something else matters more beyond the thrill of seeing her name on the same lineup as industry giants. “It feels surreal to be part of my first festival alongside big-name, internationally recognized artists, but I feel even more honored to experience it with a kickass group of humble and deserving local talent!” The Dallas DJ community thrives on collaboration, and she’s stepping onto that stage for every local artist grinding their way up. That’s why she’s pushing hard to get as many people through those festival gates as possible. Her code, DEADOESBREAKAWAY,   offers 10% off your ticket purchase . She may even land a spot on the main stage! But beyond her numbers, her goal remains simple. “My number one goal for Breakaway Dallas is to give at least one person the opportunity to forget about life’s obligations for even just a few minutes and be present in the music, similar to what music does for me.” Whether it’s a bass drop that sends shivers down someone’s spine or a melody that sparks an old memory, she wants her set to be a moment of escape.  DEA’s journey didn’t unfold according to some master plan - it exploded into existence, one unexpected step at a time. “I fully expected to take the six-week 101 beginner class to learn the basics and have something fun to do in my spare time, but I had no idea I was about to embark on a transformational adventure that would take me to unimaginable places and fundamentally change my life for the better.”  What started as a casual curiosity turned into something much bigger - a career, passion, and a calling that has pushed her past every limit she thought she had. Now, she stands behind the decks, the pulse of the music surging through her fingertips as the crowd moves in sync with every drop, build, and perfectly timed energy shift. Their cheers, the sea of raised hands, and the bass rippling through the air reflects what’s inside her. Full of possibility and living hard.

  • Dallas Ready To Erupt At Breakaway Festival Debut

Photo Credit: Mike Kirschbaum Forget the funnel cakes and carnival rides; Fair Park  is about to electrify! On April 4th and 5th, the historic Dallas grounds will transform into a neon-drenched sanctuary as the Breakaway Music Festival  makes its grand Texas debut. Renowned for its thunderous EDM lineups and immersive, otherworldly experiences, the festival arrives as Texas’ appetite for EDM peaks.  As the nation’s fastest-growing independent music festival, Breakaway’s expansion to 12 cities this year, with Dallas as a cornerstone, signifies a monumental convergence. Since its 2016 start in Columbus, Ohio, Breakaway has evolved into a multi-state phenomenon, sculpting dancefloor utopias from ordinary spaces. Now, it sets its sights on Texas and promises to inject its signature seismic energy into the state’s vibrant festival scene. Will its footprint etch itself in the Texas festival circuit? Dallas might have found its next can’t-miss, heart-pounding event if its history in other cities proves anything. Why Dallas?  Dallas plunges headfirst into electronic music. It’s an EDM epicenter, where neon lasers and 808 beats are as integral to the city’s soundscape as its celebrated barbecue joints and upscale boutiques. Demand is high, with after-hours warehouse raves and packed clubs hosting international headliners. Dallas has a fertile EDM foundation with venues like It’ll Do , The Green Elephant , Deep Ellum Art Co , and RBC  vibrating with underground house, techno, and bass. At the same time, SILO , Stereo Live , Southside Ballroom , and The Factory in Deep Ellum are essential stops on international tour circuits. Festivals like Ubbi Dubbi  and Lights All Night  have demonstrated the city’s appetite for colossal, euphoric EDM events.  Breakaway’s Co-Founder, Adam Lynn,  says, “We’re excited to bring Breakaway to Dallas. The energy of Dallas is electric, and we know the fans will bring an incredible vibe.” Additionally, Breakaway’s National Promotions Manager, Duncan Harris,  notes,   “While many associate Texas with country music, the EDM scene has grown rapidly in Dallas, and we are honored to be putting on an event for electronic music fans.” Fair Park, a sprawling 277-acre landmark  steeped in history, is set to become an EDM playground this year. Initially constructed  for the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition , this iconic venue has hosted everything from world fairs to legendary concerts. Now, it’s poised to welcome thousands of dance music enthusiasts for an unforgettable, transcendent weekend. Fair Park’s prime location, just minutes from downtown Dallas, makes it a logistical paradise for festival goers, offering easy access via car, DART light rail, or rideshare.  “ We are honored to bring Breakaway Dallas to such a historic venue,” Duncan says. “Attendees can expect three phenomenal stages across the festival grounds: our Main Stage , Launch Pad Stage , and the Silent Disco Stage , ensuring a diverse and immersive electronic music experience for everyone in Dallas.” The 2025 Lineup & What To Expect Photo Credit: Breakaway Prepare for a sonic tsunami as Breakaway Dallas unveils its exhilarating lineup, headlined by EDM titans Zedd , Slander , Afrojack , Gryffin , and Louis the Child . Zedd will ignite the stage with his signature razor-sharp synths, bone-shaking drops, and anthemic singalongs, envisioning thousands of voices uniting in a chorus of “Clarity.” SLANDER, known for their fusion of chest-quaking bass and heart-rending melodies, will deliver a performance that feels like a weightless, euphoric descent. Afrojack will crank up the BPM and deliver a high-energy set of classic anthems and electrifying remixes to keep the crowd moving. Gryffin will weave a tapestry of warm, soaring melodies that will lift the crowd to ethereal heights. And Louis the Child, the purveyors of feel-good energy, will paint the night with their dreamy, iridescent beats. Photo Credit: Meg Blair Beyond the headliners, Breakaway Dallas will showcase a rising star constellation of rising stars, promising to become your next obsession. From Jackie Hollander ’s velvety underground house grooves to LAYZ ’s face-melting, bass-drenched dubstep, the festival promises a dynamic, genre-bending journey. Keep an ear out for KREAM , TroyBoi , ACRAZE , Dallas-based artist Kenzi Sway , and many more. Breakaway Dallas offers a comprehensive EDM experience catering to every taste. Whether you crave high-octane, mainstage anthems, the hypnotic pulse of underground house, the seismic jolts of hard-hitting dubstep, or the emotionally resonant waves of future bass, you’ll find it all at Breakaway.  Breakaway Dallas Lineup What Makes Breakaway Different?  While the main stages throb with the energy of renowned headliners, Breakaway’s heart beats most vigorously in its dedication to local artistry. This commitment shines brightest at the festival’s Silent Disco . In this haven, 50 to 60 local DJs command the decks, proving the Texas EDM scene’s readiness for the spotlight.  “Playing the Breakaway Music Festival is an exciting opportunity to connect with some of the best local DJs and unite in our shared passion for the city,” John Wayne says.  For rising DJs like Javi Barahaüs , this moment is a dream realized. “Playing my first music festival feels surreal, a dream I’ve chased discovering electronic music in 4th grade,” he says. “Sharing a lineup with artists like Afrojack, Zedd, and Zomboy, whose tracks shaped my love for the genre, feels like a full-circle moment.” Breakaway Dallas Silent Disco Lineup Unlike traditional stages, the Silent Disco  empowers the audience, each festival-goer equipped with glowing headphones, choosing their DJ by switching channels. “It’s awesome that Breakaway connects the local DJ scene,” says DJ Ari . “Playing at the Silent Disco is a fun way to test your skills alongside other DJs, and the audience’s control over their experience adds a special energy.” This direct artist-listener connection creates a deeply personal experience. Castle Nova sees it as an opportunity to showcase Dallas’ hidden gems. “Playing the Silent Disco  at Breakaway Dallas means a lot to me,” he says. “Sharing the lineup with friends means good vibes and a chance to show people what Dallas locals offer.” For many artists, the Breakaway stage signifies a milestone.“Being considered for Breakaway’s Silent Disco  is a testament to how far I’ve come,” says Mal Blanc . “Playing at a festival is a lifelong dream realized, a step towards a bigger future.” Monstax echoes this sentiment: “Nothing is impossible with passion! The Silent Disco  experience creates a deeper connection with the artist’s music, free from distractions.” From seasoned veterans to rising stars, each DJ brings a story of persistence, passion, and community. Casie Farrell  says, “Each bring their unique flavor, spirit, and energy to the stage. It will undoubtedly be a crowd favorite, and we’re all ready to bring it!” What You Need To Know Before Attending Breakaway Dallas Before immersing yourself in the music, secure a ticket. This year, Breakaway introduces a futuristic twist: cryptocurrency acceptance, aligning with the innovative spirit of EDM. “EDM is one of the fastest-growing genres,” says Duncan, “so it’s fitting to accept the fastest-growing payment form.” Whether you prefer Bitcoin or traditional methods, purchasing your pass now is essential. Photo Credit: Breakaway Breakaway offers diverse ticket tiers: General Admission (GA)  for standard entry, with access to all main performances; VIP  for elevated viewing, expedited entry, and exclusive lounges; and Ultra VIP  for bottle service, backstage passes, and artist meet-and-greets. Check out ticket options here . For out-of-town attendees, consider these nearby hotels: CANVAS Hotel Dallas , Lorenzo Hotel , Element Dallas Downtown East , and the Home2 Suites by Hilton Dallas Downtown at Baylor Scott & White. Airbnb and group rentals are also excellent options. Utilize rideshare services to avoid parking challenges near Fair Park. With its ever-growing fanbase, Breakaway’s arrival feels destined. The festival’s expansion into Texas marks a strategic move into one of the nation’s fastest-growing EDM markets. If this debut meets expectations, Breakaway Dallas could become a staple event.  “We cannot wait for this debut year, and more importantly, for the years to come in Dallas,” organizers affirm. “We hope to become synonymous with the live music community in Texas.”

  • JUAN40: Finding Passion Beyond The Party

The bass drum shook De Dior Lounge ’s foundations like an earthquake. NRG Music Events and Pulsation Nation had delivered on their promise of a heart-pounding hard techno night. Veseli controlled the decks by unleashing waves of sonic energy that sent the crowd into ecstasy. Amidst the pulsing strobes and the sea of dancing bodies, one figure stood out: Juan40 . Lost in the music, he danced with an infectious passion. His every move radiating a deeper connection to the driving rhythms.  From midnight until the first rays of dawn, Veseli, Juan40, and Freakhorse  unleashed a sonic assault of hard techno. De Dior Lounge vibrated with anthems like Aida Arko ’s “Hard Disco”  and Angel Cannon ’s “Tactical Nuke” . Amidst the swirling beats and lights, I found myself drawn to Juan40, not just for his presence on the dance floor, but for the story his passion revealed - a story I was fortunate enough to glimpse during a quick chat among the party.  EDM Texas: Can you tell us about your upbringing and how you discovered EDM? Juan40:  I was born in Long Beach, CA and raised in Houston. I grew up watching YouTube videos of Tiësto  performing at stadiums and various rave dance compilations. When I was seventeen, I started going out to raves, and at 24, I began my DJing career!  EDM Texas: What are your favorite genres to mix? Juan 40: I love to play Techno, House, and Trance, mixing in Breaks, Electro, Hard Dance, and drum & bass. EDM Texas: What is the most important thing you have learned about DJing over the past few years? • Behind The Decks: How VOZZ Is Revolutionizing The Industry

Photo Courtesy of Richard Park It’s 3 AM at COBA , Dallas’s buzzing new afterhours venue, and the energy in the room is electric. The air vibrates with pounding house beats, and muffled chatter from the crowd behind and outside the DJ booth. Amid the chaos, VOZZ stands poised behind the decks, radiating calm focus as he prepares for an exceptional back-to-back debut with fellow artist and close friend Dea. In this charged atmosphere, VOZZ’s artistry and magnetic personality shine through as he cuts through the noise and commands the room.  Recently awarded the 2023 Dallas EDM Award for Best House Track , VOZZ has captured the attention of fans and industry heavyweights alike with his unique fusion of tech house grooves and Latin-inspired rhythms. This dynamic blend, rooted in his diverse cultural and musical influences, sets him apart as a trailblazer in a rapidly evolving genre. Whether it’s a high-energy club or a chart-topping production, his sound is unmistakable, and he’s leading the movement with undeniable passion and care. VOZZ’s journey in the music industry is nothing short of inspiring. Growing up in an entertainment-driven family originally from South Korea, music was more than a passion - it was a way of life. Surrounded by instruments and actively participating in marching band and chorus, VOZZ’s musical roots run deep. While encouraged to pursue his talents early on, he also explored a business career, spending years in software development while music remained a cherished hobby.  As his passion for music grew, VOZZ leaped to pursue production full-time, and started diving headfirst into the club culture world. He honed his craft by studying DJs, spinning vinyl records, and eventually ghost-producing tracks for top European labels and DJs. This behind-the-scenes work sharpened his skills and solidified his path as an icon in the EDM scene with relentless ambition.  “My experience learning music in school, playing instruments, and exploring it as a hobby made me realize my true passion was producing and DJing,” VOZZ says. “It felt natural because music has always been my passion.” Photo Courtesy of Richard Park Beyond his performances and original productions, VOZZ has dedicated years to mastering the art of producing, mixing, and engineering for some of the industry’s biggest names. While the spotlight often shines on the result, the meticulous behind-the-scenes work is where the magic truly happens.  “It’s not glamorous or exciting - it’s hours in front of a computer, collaborating, networking, and navigating contracts,” he explains.  Often overlooked, this side of the industry demands patience, grit, and an unyielding passion for the craft. For VOZZ, this foundational work is a stepping stone that transforms raw talent into enduring artistry.  “Things don’t happen overnight, and you can’t rush the process,” he explains. “Many people enter the industry expecting instant fame, dreaming of playing at major festivals without understanding the years of effort that goes into achieving that level of success. The stars and renowned DJs people admire often have a decade or more of hard work behind them. Patience is key because it helps you navigate the industry and shape you into a better producer and artist.”  VOZZ approaches every performance with precision and intent, starting with a deep dive into the venue's vibe and its audience. By understanding what promoters, bookers, and event organizers know, he tailors his sets to match the crowd’s energy. This thorough preparation ensures he stays adaptable and focused and can deliver a memorable experience at the highest possible energy level. “I study social media, the general vibe of the event, and the style of other artists playing there,” he says. “Based on this, I prepare four different sets or mixes. The energy of the crowd and the atmosphere during my performance guide which direction I take.”  Photo Courtesy of Richard Park VOZZ has lit up countless stages throughout his career. Still, one performance is unique in his heart: the Pride Festival in San Diego. As a passionate advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, playing at Pride had always been a dream, and the chance to perform for a crowd in his hometown was a moment he’d never forget.  “Getting the chance to showcase an incredible set in my hometown made it even more special,” he says. “I could share my music with an amazing crowd, and the energy was unforgettable. It’s truly one of the highlights of my career!” VOZZ has left a permanent mark on the West Coast and Texas EDM scenes, carving out a name for himself as a key player in prominent collectives like the Funky Gold Network , Soniquarium , and Amplify EDM . Connecting with fellow artists and individuals who share his energy and drive is a valid reward for him.  “It’s not always easy to find the right people,” he admits, “but when you do, you uncover a like-minded and supportive community that helps everyone grow together. In any pursuit, having a strong network around you is essential. Being part of a group that supports, uplifts, and grows with you is invaluable. You rise together, and that’s the beauty of joining a collective like that! Texas is still in its early stages in the music industry. Yet, it has led to incredible creativity with a unique fusion of styles like Latin music, house, and trap coming together. What’s exciting is the massive mainstream growth of EDM, and Dallas is right at the heart of it all.”  This year, VOZZ is doubling down on quality over quantity, shifting his focus to creating music that truly resonates with his soul. For the first time, he’s prioritizing tracks he genuinely loves - music that reflects his passion and authenticity - over chasing trends or label expectations. “I’m moving away from making tracks that I think labels want or solely aim at attracting an audience,” he says. “For the first time, I’m prioritizing what feels authentic to me, which matters most. Staying true to that will be my guiding principle!” VOZZ has consistently pushed boundaries, both behind the scenes and on stage, and now, he’s channeling his energy into crafting music that speaks directly to his heart. Stream his latest releases on your favorite platforms and follow him on social media to stay connected for updates on his upcoming shows, exclusive collaborations, and behind-the-scenes moments. Zeds Dead closed out the night with a brain-melting blend of dubstep, DnB, and bass house, highlighted by fan-favorite tracks like his collaborations with Subtronics , “Gassed Up” and “Bumpy Teeth”, “Lost You”, and their latest banger with Flux Pavilion , “Waves”. They also didn’t come to play, mashing up popular favorites like Limp Bizkit ’s “Break Stuff” and War ’s “Low Rider”.  Deadbeats DFW Jamboree Event Experience  The Deadbeats DFW Jamboree delivered an unforgettable festival experience, despite a few hiccups on the venue's side. The weather brought tiny rain showers that added a playful, muddy twist to the event in some areas. Essentials like free water stations and bathrooms were easy to find, though longer lines occasionally tested patience. Although some sets faced tiny technical difficulties, the energy didn’t wither, and the night became the best experience of a lifetime. Attendees praised the overall vibe but voiced concerns about staying cool in the Texas heat. Some hydration stations offered warm water, leaving many wishing for colder options to stay refreshed without spending extra. Some suggestions could elevate future events at Panther Island Pavilion: providing a place to buy or grab ice for camelbacks. Additionally, more shade by the main stage would be a game-changer as it would help festival-goers stay comfortable during the sun-soaked sets. Some attendees were also concerned about knowing where to retrive or report lost items and were confused by the lost and found infrastructure. As these are just minor concerns, the Deadbeats DFW Jamboree still managed to put on a safely structured event and radiated a positive, caring atmosphere. Festival-goers looked out for one another, offering water and cool-downs with fans, embodying the spirit of unity. The event also welcomed families, creating a safe, wholesome space where children could experience the vibrant EDM community. From the smiles on little faces to the supportive crowd, it was a heartwarming sight that showcased the inclusive, family-friendly nature of the festival!  Overall, the Deadbeats DFW Jamboree was a resounding success and delivered a meticulously planned, high-energy event that perfectly wrapped up the summer. With unforgettable performances, a lively crowd, and a strong sense of community, the festival left everyone with anticipation for the next one. From the seamless logistics to the electric atmosphere, it was a day filled with memories that has us counting down to the next Texas Deadbeats show! All photos were taken by Megan Burch.

  • Jess Baroness: Pledging Community And Allegiance To The Dance Floor

The year is 2006. Anticipation is high at wild house parties across DFW, where the dance floor buzzes with energy and music spills from vinyl grooves. Jess Baroness is mastering the art of vinyl - a craft demanding patience, precision, and a deep respect for every beat and fine distinction. She curates sets that embody the funky, seductive energy of DFW’s legendary club culture, committing herself to the dance floor. She relies on a group of close pals to carry the hundreds of pounds of mixers, turntables, chords, records, and analog grit that powered her early performances.  “Today, I may arrive 15 minutes before my set time, while before, I would have to show up two hours early to the house party or renegade-covered parking pad in Deep Ellum to set up gear,” Jess says. “Becoming a USBJ was a truly freeing experience since most songs are an affordable download away. Back then, the dance floor had to hear my same 50 tracks all summer. We were always in Rainbow Country.” As both a DJ and professional dancer, Jessica Parmer, aka Jess Baroness, has witnessed how the rise of EDM has transformed the dance floor experience.  “Music fans stand facing the DJ - watching the epic laser visuals and waiting for the occasional crowd unifying head-bang,” Jess explains. “I love it for them! It's VERY punk rock. In contrast, my sets galvanize a pace and sound that makes you turn around, face your people, and dance until you sweat. Looking behind the decks, you see me creating my dance floor- carefree, wildin'. My sets build around planned, efficient song transitions that allow me to get back to dancing with the floor.” Roots, Vinyl & Dance Floor Philosophy Jess Baroness’s sets are vibrant fusions of house, funk, and indie, creating a truly eclectic musical experience. Her approach seamlessly bridges electronic subgenres with tracks from iconic live bands like LCD Soundsystem  while weaving in at least one classic gem per set. With a focus on preparation, punctuality, and production quality, Jess stands out by investing in high-quality music files, meticulously planning her sets, and committing to daily practice to deliver an unforgettable dance floor journey.  “I am not the kind of girl who ‘wings it’,” Jess says. “Procrastination does not come naturally to me. I save any last-minute energy that arises to add value to my party time - creating small gifts for friends, baking some tiny cupcakes, or adding a funny hat to my outfit!” Jess Baroness channels the funky, inclusive, and high-energy spirit of DFW’s iconic EDM scene. A lifelong dancer, she understands the rare communal joy of moments like “The Electric Slide” and the transformative power of losing yourself in the music. For Jess, the dance floor is a space to feel deeply, sweat it out, and move through hurt, confusion, and self-doubt - all in rhythm with the beat.  “I watch my dance floor closely and connect with the party people who are stomping, hair whipping, spinning, or generating "that" energy,” Jess says. “I stick with them assuredly by playing limited dead times before the drops, which is just enough time to rest your feet a second and take a sip. I always say, ‘I pledge allegiance to the dance floor’ because my mission is to serve the dancers.” Jess Baroness’s Impact on the DFW EDM Community Legendary venues like Lizard Lounge , Purgatory , Beauty Bar , and O Bar once defined the heartbeat of DFW’s dance scene. When Jess drives past the remnants of those iconic spaces, she raises her hands in gratitude, cherishing memories of waiting in line to support local legends like Red Eye , Kelly Reverb , and Blake Ward . Those nights on the dance floor instilled values that now shape her approach as a DJ and honor the spirit of a scene that inspired her journey.  “I learned that gigs will not always be perfect; it's a fools' goal,” Jess says. “Rarely will there be perfect mixes, outfits, hair, moves - I must be ready to conquer missteps and maintain my confidence quickly. We party people are not inherently the coolest people in our other circles, but LMFAO  said it best: ‘This ain't a scene, it's a dancefloor baby’! The people having the most fun at the spot are the ‘coolest’ ones to me. I am a cheerleader who believes in the contagion of enthusiasm. I am an enthusiastic leader who gets the party started wherever I go.” Jess Baroness has been vital to crews like Basshead Society  and Girls Next Door  and events like Top Notch Tuesdays  and Jack’s House . A standout moment in her career came this past summer when John Wayne Presents, and Venus Collective  hosted a series at The Rayleigh in Las Colinas  featuring all-female openers. Performing on the venue’s massive sound and visual setup marked a milestone for Jess, showcasing her talent on an unforgettable scale.  “I felt like a superstar DJ!” Jess claims. “My residency for the Circus Bitties  performance group has been so glamorous and fun, especially inviting local DJ friends to have fun and show out in costumes at the afterparties. I also treasure my times on decks and the go at EDM Tuesday at the Dirty Mule Bar  in Arlington.” What’s Next for Jess Baroness? Jess Baroness is setting her sights on producing a series of two-minute tracks across various genres to deepen her understanding of different musical styles. Many of these tracks will pay homage to local party people and iconic venues, offering meaningful gifts that she hopes fellow DJs will incorporate into her sets. Partnering with the Funky Gold Network  - a club for DJs aged 40 and up - Jess plans to collaborate with seasoned artists and event planners to share impactful projects and exciting events, aiming to make 2025 a standout year for the scene. “I aspire to set an example by continuing to dance and cheer for my fellow DFW DJs!” Jess says. “I keep tapping into the sincerity of Mr. Rogers's Neighborhood, hosting my local DJ pals, and making the content and connections that help us all promote and enjoy dance music in DFW!” Stay connected with Jess Baroness by following her on social media for the latest updates, mixes, and behind-the-scenes glimpses of her journey. • LV82: Crafting Heritage & House One Tradition At A Time

Amidst Houston’s dynamic, culturally rich music scene, where sounds intertwine and traditions merge, a name makes waves: LV82 . With roots deeply connected to Texas and Mexico, this emerging artist infuses his heritage into electronic music, creating a unique blend that captivates audiences from local venues to Puerto Rico dance floors!  We spoke with LV82 about his journey, inspirations, and what’s next for the rising star redefining Latin house beats with a personal touch. EDM Texas: Growing up in a family with such a solid musical foundation, especially with your Father as a musician, must have profoundly impacted you! Can you share what it was like being surrounded by music from a young age and how your Father’s influence has shaped your journey as an artist?  LV82: Music has always played a big part in my family through parties, my Father’s gigs at weddings, band rehearsals, Clubs, Festivals, etc., and even early morning cleaning. I have always found music intriguing and love how sounds make me feel. My dad helped me understand tempos and Keys, inspiring me to create music and express my ideas. EDM Texas: Playing in Los 6 de Durango with your Father and uncles must have been an incredible experience! How did being a part of that band shape your foundation as a musician?  LV82: Playing in a band with my family was great! I have many memories! I learned many skills and discovered struggles like equipment setup and breakdown, troubleshooting while setting up and performing, and practice. Consistency is the most significant foundation to becoming an artist. I remember always coming home from school and straight to the drums, I would go! I would practice the songs I needed to learn for the performance, and from there, I would better my craft each time. I maintained consistency in DJing, music production, and performing as time passed. EDM Texas: When you first started exploring electronic music, what captivated you about the genre, and how has it given you artistic freedom compared to your early experiences?  LV82: Listening to electronic music made me realize I have the freedom to express my ideas through music. It makes me feel emotion through my body from the groove of the drums and the raw melodies it brings me. Artists like XXYYXX , Flume , Diplo , John Murphy , and Deorro  inspire me to create music, and trying to make similar songs has led me to experiment with different sounds and instruments. I love a good melody, especially the ones that make you levitate. EDM Texas: With housepartii, your duo with Nnoiise, you’ve created something special together! How did this collaboration come about, and how has working as a duo influenced your approach to music?  LV82: I understand NNoiise, and he understands me. We started music production and DJing together, and as kids, we loved similar artists and sounds. We even had dreams of starting a rock band back then! The first duo project we started was Lokosanity , and we had a great time creating music and DJing for events. As time passed, we started a new sound with new goals - that's when Housepartii  came about. Working next to NNoiise has taught me to be open to possible music opportunities. Curating events with him has made me realize how important music is to us. We do it because we love it. Making people dance and hyping them up is what we live for. The look on everyone’s face when we show them a project or go B2B is something we have always dreamed of. EDM Texas: You’ve played some exciting shows, from Latinx Groove in Puerto Rico to Lief Fest and Noche de Cumbia in Houston! Which performances stand out to you as milestones, and how have these experiences shaped your growth and presence as a live performer?  LV82: Latinx Groove  in Puerto Rico is by far my favorite show I have ever played! It was the first time using CDJs in front of a packed crowd! The energy over there is AMAZING! Performing there excites me and makes me want to take my DJ career to the next level. I felt a strong connection with the crowd, and I had a smile on my face the whole time! That show made me realize that bringing energy to the crowd is essential, not just your playlist. Engaging with fans is one of my favorite things about DJing! EDM Texas: Looking ahead, how do you envision expanding your reach and evolving your sound?  LV82: In the future, I want to create more content and post more live mixes. I want people to know what I'm about and what I can bring. I will still be releasing music and an album soon. So far this year, I have met great local DJs and amazing people along the way who believe in me, and I am grateful! I do my best to show love and support to my friends, especially those who have helped me. I also want to do more collaborative projects to expand my horizons. EDM Texas: As you look to the future, what’s next for you and Housepartii? Can you share any upcoming performances or goals you’re excited to pursue in the coming months and years?  LV82: On November 23rd, we are doing our third Elev8ted Euphoria  event, where different genre DJs put on a show for amazing people. NNoiise and I will have our single sets and come together to do a B2B set with Housepartii! I want to keep this momentum going with no brakes. I am hungry and ready! LV82’s evolution is one to watch. Watch for his upcoming shows and the energy he brings, and don’t forget to follow him on his socials below and explore his music. INSTAGRAM X YOUTUBE SOUNDCLOUD

  • Nicky Bender: The Visionary Bringing Chicago Roots to Dallas

As he rewrites the rules, Nicky Bender is making a grand entrance in the Texas dance scene. With a sound forged into the gritty heart of Chicago’s underground, Nicky brings a depth of musical history and a fiercely unique style to his craft. Currently residing in Dallas, he blends house, techno, and dubstep elements to captivate audiences and create a lasting impression that leaves them wanting more. We had the chance to catch up with Nicky Bender to dive into his journey, his approach to genre-blending, and what’s next for one of Texas’s rising talents. EDM Texas: Chicago has a rich history in the underground music scene. How did growing up there shape your approach to music, and what elements of that scene do you carry into your music today?   Nicky Bender: Most people know that house music originated in Chicago, so it’s natural that I draw to it. With OG guys like Marshall Jefferson  and Frankie Knuckles  shaping the scene, Green Velvet  and Kaskade  are the guys I grew up listening to, and I have always wanted to be around them. The guys you don't know about, though - you would see at the underground warehouse raves or could only hear on certain days of the week late at night on 99.9 Electric on the Radio , were the guys that made house music famous within the movement. EDM Texas: Moving from Chicago to Dallas, how did the shift in location influence your sound and creative energy?   Nicky Bender : People naturally like to adapt when moving into a new environment. However, it only changed my approach a little. I wanted to stay true to my style and continue standing out to listeners. Dallas has a fantastic music scene, and I am thrilled to participate! EDM Texas: Your music combines intricate melodies with heavy-hitting beats across house, techno, and dubstep! Can you walk us through your creative process when blending these genres, and what do you think sets your sound apart from the electronic music scene?   Nicky Bender: Many artists like being one-dimensional, which works great for them. I like to deliver a performance that keeps people engaged; no matter who is there, I can keep them engaged. I see more DJs play multiple genres during their sets and I love their versatility. I spend countless hours listening and practicing blending these genres to see what sounds great. My years of experience come into play when I mix genres and immerse myself in music for so long, shaping my approach. I want it to be an experience. Something that genuinely makes people happy and creates an unforgettable memory. EDM Texas: You recently debuted your first single, “Switch,”  which has already gained impressive traction with 10K streams! What has the journey been like from producing that track to gearing up for future releases?   Nicky Bender: I’m blown away! I didn't think this track would get over a few hundred streams. It is impressive to see it used on primary EDM pages’ reels and supported by artists. It hasn't been easy, though; I have a bit of imposter syndrome. Whether creating music or preparing a set, it isn’t great until it's out there, and I can see people's reactions. I am a perfectionist and can be hard on myself. Still, thankfully, I have so many amazing people in my life who are constantly encouraging me and give uncondition al support. EDM Texas: Malik Mustache has even backed your track. How have these milestones shaped you as a producer?   Nicky Bender: The Malik Mustache boys have been great to work with, and having their support on the track means the world to me. Having a big-name artist like them play my track motivates me to continue staying true to my style and knowing it’s okay to be different and dream big! EDM Texas: You’ve performed at iconic spots across Dallas, like Jack’s House, and your headline-opening at Tiny Victories! How do you approach each performance, and what do you hope people will take away from each set?   Nicky Bender: My goal each time is for people to leave a venue, talk about my set that night but also the next day, and want to attend again. When they see my name on a lineup, they get excited, and it's something they can look forward to. As long as people are dancing and having a good time, I’ve done what I came to do. EDM Texas: You’ve mentioned that staying genuine is a big part of who you are as an artist. How does this authenticity shape your music & performances, and how do you think it resonates with your fans and builds a loyal following?   Nicky Bender: With the scene being more significant than ever and the influx of people wanting to be DJs and producers, it is essential to be authentic. I'm not a trend-follower; I want to be a trendsetter. I want people to hear my sets and say, “Damn, that's how I want to play.” I'm not worried about social media followers or becoming famous - it's all about the music for me and being able to perform, whether in front of 15 people or 1500. It's the best natural high you can get. The music scene is a community, not a competition; I want to see everyone succeed and follow their dreams. I always want to help my fellow artists in any way I can! EDM Texas: What are your future aspirations as you continue to grow in the music scene? How do you envision expanding your reach and creating more unforgettable experiences for your audiences in Texas and beyond?   Nicky Bender: 2024 was a breakout year for me, with two tracks released on record labels, moving to a new city, and being able to play at some of the top venues. I am truly blessed. That's only the start of things. In 2025, I have big goals: to release a multi-genre EP showcasing my versatility, play at a festival, and travel out of the country and play. Seeing how my music streams worldwide is crazy to me, so I know all of these goals are achievable, and I won’t stop until I meet them! Nicky Bender has emerged as an unstoppable force in Texas’s electronic dance music scene in just a short time. Whether headlining intimate Dallas venues or dropping tracks backed by industry icons, Nicky’s authentic approach and sound leave a resonant impact. As he sets his sights on bigger stages and global reach, there’s no doubt Nicky Bender is one to watch. INSTAGRAM X SPOTIFY
