Joseph: As producers and DJs, we have wanted to provide a platform for local artists to better themselves as artists and human beings. Over time, we have connected with these people across the state at events such as Nova Fest or the shows we’ve attended in countless cities. Some of these artists are well known and others just haven’t had their shot so artists of all sizes get that opportunity to play with their idols with us at Sound Culture! EDM Texas:  How has Sound Culture Entertainment contributed to the electronic music community in Midland/Odessa over the past few years and what impact have your efforts had on the local scene? Joseph: The co-owner of Sound Culture Entertainment, Patrick Vasquez, and I have been hosting local EDM shows for nearly four years in the Midland/ Odessa area connecting with dozens of local artists and creatives to establish the community in our area. I have worked with other companies in the region like Outer Limits Entertainment to bring headliners such as PhaseOne, VNSSA, Steve Aoki, RIOT, and more to our area so that people don’t have to drive five hours to Dallas or El Paso to see their favorite artists. Together we have taken our collective experiences and the best aspect of what we have seen from everyone else and started Sound Culture to further the growth in our area! EDM Texas: Bringing headliners to smaller markets is a unique approach! How has Sound Culture Entertainment attracted headlining acts to smaller markets like Midland/Odessa, and what benefits does this strategy offer artists and attendees in reducing travel time? Joseph: Headliners in a secondary market are rare, but we have found success networking with people nationwide. We have established relationships with several agencies including some of the largest in the business, and continue to expand and grow each day with new partnerships and relationships. We make sure they know how passionate we are about our community and the growth of something larger than all of us. EDM Texas: As Sound Culture Entertainment looks to expand into larger markets like Dallas, what are your plans for growth and how do you envision your presence influencing the electronic music scene in these bigger cities? Joseph: We want to be known as a company that throws shows for the people and by the people no matter the area. We aren’t looking to replace anyone or compete, but to collaborate and develop these areas as EDM continues to grow and evolve! EDM Texas: Can you elaborate on Sound Culture Entertainment’s vision for developing the experimental bass and tech house scenes in both new and existing markets, and what strategies do you plan to implement to promote these genres within the Texas electronic music community? Joseph: We are very open to expanding all genres of EDM, but the main in the Midland/Odessa scene is the deep/heavy dub and tech house. Being immersed in the scene ourselves, we get to hear and see what people like firsthand and would like to capitalize on that. As we grow the foundation of our scene here, the rest follows, making room for all genres to enjoy! We plan to keep ourselves grounded and stay in touch with the people in the communities to hear their feedback and be able to target our events towards things that everyone likes and not just what we prefer ourselves! EDM Texas: What final thoughts would you like to share with the electronic music community and your supporters about the future of Sound Culture Entertainment and its impact on the music scene? Joseph: Given the growth we’ve already experienced through building relationships with other promoters like Full Grind Entertainment and PRIME Night Cult, we aim to be a catalyst for the expansion of electronic dance music in West Texas and throughout the entire state and nationwide. I am extremely grateful for the electronic genre as a whole and our main mission is to leave music a better place than we found it. She also shares her thoughts on her performance style and how she incorporates her original production into her sets. EDM Texas: Your music is often praised for its ability to create ethereal sounds that transport listeners to otherworldly realms! What is your approach to crafting these sounds and how do you achieve such a captivating effect in your tracks? Etherabass: As a kid, I loved listening to EDM and the beautiful soundscapes in the music. It was my favorite thing in the entire world to stay up late with my headphones blasting online radio dance sets while watching the night sky. Some of my favorite artists are very underground, some are one-hit producers in electronic music. My inspiration spans all over within different subgenres of electronic music, starting with some 2000s Tiësto, Gigi D'Agostino, Headhunterz, then Flux Pavillion, Emalkay, to more current dubstep such as Subtronics, Liquid Stranger, Virtual Riot, and many others. I started teaching myself in my early teens how to use a DAW then later picked it back up as an artist. Everything I love across the assortment of artists and DJs has given a broad musical influence to the tracks I make. EDM Texas: Can you walk us through the process of working with frequencies and how you use them to evoke such immersive experiences for your audience? Etherabass: I love incorporating soaring to spacey-sounding synths and recordings taken from nature into my music. My songs often take a life of their own during creation. Whether it's an emotion or concept, I let myself get fully immersed in the creative process. When I'm working on a track, I'll let it flow and see where it takes me. If I'm getting lost in the music, I always look forward to giving that same experience to the listeners. It's like an escape from everyday reality into an entirely different one. I strive to create an experience where listeners feel transported into the miniature worlds existing within each song. This aspiration plays a significant role in inspiring my journey as a producer. EDM Texas: Are there any specific tracks or mixes where you feel your ability to create these ethereal atmospheres shines through the most? Etherabass: “Waves Of The Soul” is one of the tracks that I went into creating with a big atmosphere. I wanted to portray emotion and a story in sound. Having haunting vocals and deep wubs in one track gives a "traveling to a lost civilization deep under the sea" vibe. Right now, I'm currently working on an album that will be focused primarily on experimental dubstep with lots of transcendental, ethereal vibes. I've taken parts of my sets in that direction but usually, I like to switch it up depending on the night. I'm always evolving my sound! Can you discuss the impact you aim to achieve with these bass-heavy tracks on the dancefloor and in the listener experience? Etherabass: As a fan of many bass-heavy artists and a producer of two years, I've begun to work specifically on deeper low-end bass in my tracks to push the limits. On the technical end, it's challenging to see how low I can drop the heaviest, deepest bass frequencies uniquely, and then bring it out to watch the reactions live. I admit there's nothing like the joy of unleashing a terrifying drop that engulfs any everyday noises in its path without mercy. I've been working with Sonofinity in DFW to showcase their sound system's capabilities with my bass music. The listening and dancefloor experience that's provided has been incredible. Plus they've overall good people and a huge support to the bass music scene. We’re close to seeing a revival of genuine community birthed from the bass music scene. I'm very grateful to be a part of that! EDM Texas: When you’re performing, what specific instances do you feel the bass takes center stage and drives the energy forward and what makes these moments stand out to you? Etherabass: When not just event goers but even other DJs get their bass face on, when there's headbanging, dancing, and even people closing their eyes to feel the music... that's what does it for me. Seeing people let go and get feral with the drops while I'm behind the decks is the best feeling. I played a small festival last year and freestyled a hardstyle set so heavy it rattled the sign off the stage. The weather was also pretty crazy mid-Texas summer with lightning and all. It only added to the intensity and made for an awesome set. It's moments like all of the above when there's THAT energy, it's raw but pure simultaneously. It's a beautiful thing! EDM Texas: Your DJ sets often lean towards darker sounds creating an intense and captivating mood! What draws you to these darker elements and how do you believe they contribute to the overall atmosphere of your sets? Etherabass: One of my most unforgettable experiences was attending an underground rave in Florida. It was an unlisted event created by the community and lasted until the next day. Dancing the night away helped me forget everything that was going on in my life. The music played was dark, atmospheric, trippy, and otherworldly. It was so immersive that it inspired me to get into producing and DJing. Unfortunately, the location no longer exists in the same way, but I want to bring the PLUR vibes of that night to Texas. I would be thrilled if I could recreate even half of that epic experience in the rave scene here. I am a huge fan of dubstep, hardstyle, industrial music, and metal. I want to incorporate the intensity and darker, supernatural, or fantasy concepts into my sets. It's like telling a story through sound and creating a unique environment. I want to provide a space vastly different from our daily lives, where people can dance or headbang to forget whatever they're going through. My aim is not just to DJ an awesome set but to truly immerse people in the music, which serves as a form of healing the mind, body, and soul. EDM Texas: How do you approach maintaining this balance in your music selection and how do you see your darker sets connecting with your audience? Etherabass: Typically it depends on where I'm playing, watching the other DJs before me, and seeing how the night goes. I'll have a playlist for my sets longer than necessary in case a track has been played a lot before I'm up. It's also in case of anything not reading, or last-minute decisions on the vibe. There have been occasions when I’ve been prepared for a high-energy performance, only to observe that the audience appears fatigued. I adjust by incorporating trippy dubstep or hard dance tracks to maintain a balanced vibe. I would rather be over-prepared before performing than not. It can make the difference between doing an insane set or train wrecking hard. As for the darker sets, I love doing those and watching people thrash. Out of the sets I've played that usually get the floor more lively - it's the heaviest ones. Well... except when it's been about four to five hours in and every DJ is going as hard as the next. At that point you know everybody's vibing until their necks and feet can go some more! Those times are just as awesome though because you genuinely see people connecting with their kind of music, their tribe... making friends, and building community. That's as important as getting them to move on the dancefloor. How do you utilize melodic dubstep as a genre to convey emotion and establish that connection with your audience? Somber: First off, thank you! that is a huge compliment for me because music, to me, is extremely emotional and allows for me to express my thoughts and feelings way better than words ever could. Melodic Dubstep will enable people to resonate with the music personally while still feeling that intense drop or super impactful chorus you can belt with your friends. EDM Texas: Your style of melodic dubstep stands out for its distinctiveness. Can you highlight the key elements or techniques you incorporate into your music that set your style apart? Somber: What helps me stand out is the lyrical aspects of chosen songs. When listening to music, I need that message in the song and the little story that plays out in my head while I’m listening to it. Being able to bring that imagery to others is something I crave with my music. EDM Texas: Your music is also distinguished by its fusion of metal & rock elements! What inspired you to blend these genres, and how do you believe this fusion contributes to your unique identity as a DJ? Somber: Rock and Metal is what I grew up on. As long as I can remember, I would listen to Mötley Crüe and Metallica with my dad. As I got older, I grew into the Emo scene more with bands like Motionless in White and Bring Me The Horizon. The impact their music made on me is something I want to continue to let influence me in my style and performances. EDM Texas: Can you share some insights into the challenges when merging these diverse musical styles and what rewards you find in pushing genre boundaries within electronic music? Somber: These two genres blend well but it depends on the crowd you're playing to mostly. Some people want to hear those heavy dubstep drops with the raging guitar in the background while the more melodic side might lend itself more to the pop side of music. Finding that song everyone resonates with makes me feel like I'm playing the music I love. The biggest challenge I run into is finding the right audience to allow my style to connect with, but when I do, the passion behind it for me and the crowd is worlds apart from any other style. The biggest reward I get is hearing those compliments from people saying that I made their night or they were having a bad day and I turned it around for them. It sticks with me and humbles me every single time. EDM Texas: You’ve recently performed at prominent venues around Dallas like Shot Topic, Green Elephant, and Select Start! What are some notable moments or highlights that stood out during these shows? Somber: Shot Topic is an absolute blast to play at and is, by far, my favorite gig. It allows me to keep in touch with those metal and emo roots I grew up with while still letting me sneak in some heavy dubstep with rock and seeing people go crazy over a remix of their favorite song they grew up with. My favorite moment from Select Start was the first gig - I was asked to play where I put on my mask for the first time, seeing people's faces and feeling like a completely different persona made me feel untouchable. One moment that sticks out to me was at Green Elephant for my first paid gig ever and I closed the night out and had an amazing time connecting with the audience. When it was done I was approached by a couple who said I inspired them to get into DJing and had them crying and raging with me while I played. Even as a new DJ, moments like that are all I could ever ask for and is the reason I got into this in the first place. EDM Texas: What inspires you during the creative process and how do you translate those inspirations into your music? Somber: During the creative process, what inspires me most is the songs I can put on when feeling a certain way throughout my day. Sad? I know just the song. Mad? Let's rage and get the anger out. Wherever my head is during that process is what I want people to feel when they hear me play. Emotion is absolutely the main driving factor in my creative process. EDM Texas: What are some of the motivations and inspirations behind the sets you create and how do you channel these influences into your performances to create a memorable experience for your audience? Somber: The biggest motivator for me when it comes to my sets is making sure that people feel something while I'm playing. EDM can get a bad rap sometimes where people think it's just the same beats over and over again but when I play I try to ensure that everyone in the crowd from the front to the back gets something out of watching me perform. My biggest inspirations are Excision, Seven Lions, Subtronics, Kai Wachi, and Sullivan King because they all have a huge dedicated fan base and the pure energy and emotion that they bring to their sets is something that I am constantly chasing in my own. I remember seeing Excision for the first time when I was 21 and raging the entire night and feeling like my body was hit by a truck by the end of it and I wouldn't have it any other way. They all make me feel something. EDM Texas: How do you envision your music evolving and what steps do you plan to take to continue growing and pushing boundaries within the electronic dance music scene? Somber: I want to get better at producing music; it's daunting because of the sheer amount of work and knowledge that goes into it, but I know it will pay off in the end. Collaborating with some of the bands I listened to when I was growing up would be an absolute dream of mine and bring their names to the EDM scene and show people more music they can fall in love with. Exploring more genres could help me stand out and grow in the music scene. I've been getting more into Drum and Bass and Melodic Techno because there's a lot of raw emotion from those styles but it still gives me that connection I crave with people. On a personal note, I'd love to come up with visual experiences similar to Black Tiger Sex Machine for myself, take people on a journey during their time with, me, and help them connect with the mask and Somber as a whole. With a background rooted in traditional band performances, AJ Vincent, aka. Party Wolfe has transitioned into the electronic dance music community, drawing from experience touring with various bands. We spoke to him about his evolution from traditional band settings to the dynamic world of electronic dance music production. EDM Texas: Your roots in Austin, Texas, and extensive touring experience with various bands have undoubtedly shaped your musical journey! How has your upbringing in Austin and time on the road influenced your approach to music and your performances? Party Wolfe: My rock background heavily influences my electronic music. When I was five years old, I started learning the piano. One thing led to another: I did piano lessons, played in bands, and went to rock n’ roll camps. Although the lessons were expensive, being in Austin provided opportunities to find teachers, camps, and singing coaches. I’m grateful to my parents for supporting my music learning as I was growing up. In college, I left Texas State and joined the Austin Live Music Academy at UT by taking a one-year course that taught industry insights. During this time, I joined Bright Light Social Hour, where I played keys. We started small, playing for about 25 people, but eventually opened for bands like Umphrey’s McGee, which taught me about touring. I have also played with bands like Scorpion Child, Black Taxi, and even participated in a project with Matt Gillmore, the son of David Gillmore from Pink Floyd. I feel more like a rock guy in electronic dance music as I prioritize live energy and intensity! EDM Texas: Your transition from traditional band performances to electronic music production marks a significant shift in your musical career! What inspired this change and impacted your creative process and evolution of your sound? Party Wolfe: When Skrillex released “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” it was a game-changer! Electronic names like Justice and Com Truise and bands like Yeasayer incorporating synths into rock music also drew me into electronic music. Daft Punk’s distorted, grungy electronic sound also fascinated me and inspired me to experiment. While I toured with Bright Light Social Hour, I started learning Ableton Live in the van and crafting rough tracks. Astral Heat is more electronic. Electric Kind of Love is a rock and EDM hybrid record. My current unreleased album blends spacey vibes with a grounded sound. I am integrating more live elements into my sets and balancing DJing with the keyboard and vocals with my helmet on. EDM Texas: One of the remarkable aspects of your performances is your ability to offer audiences a range of DJ sets to live performances with keyboards and vocals, or even a combination of both! What is your approach to crafting each type of performance and navigating between these different styles to engage with your audience? Party Wolfe: Crafting performances and navigating styles are integral to my approach. For Party Wolfe sets, the core aim is to make people dance. It’s one thing to produce dance music, but ensuring it moves the crowd is another challenge. Each Party Wolfe track aims to evoke that spontaneous urge to dance, even for those who didn’t plan on it. For rock performances, it’s about practice. Unlike DJ sets, where I focus on tracks, rock performance requires intense practice on strings of notes and playing with others. I aim for a level where the songs become second nature, allowing me to focus more on the crowd and less on the technicalities. On tour, this level of practice elevates the entire band’s performance. It’s about being in tune with the crowd and not getting sidetracked with nerves or distractions.  Over time, I’ve learned to shift my mindset from fearing mistakes to focusing on delivering great experiences for the audience. Being a musician isn’t about seeking fame but about creating memorable experiences for people through music. Whether or not my face becomes isn’t important; what matters is how many people I get dancing and the good times I create. EDM Texas: How do you perceive your contribution to the electronic music landscape, and what do you hope to achieve with your music on a broader scale? Party Wolfe: I’ve found a home base at How Much?! Studios, a venue in North Austin, where I’ve been putting on events like Cosmic Odyssey. My impact on the community is growing, with people starting to recognize my presence. Looking ahead, I aim to make a broader impact on the electronic dance music scene and envision a shift toward a grounded, grungy vibe synonymous with the raw energy of punk rock. I’m not interested in mimicking others or conforming to clichés - I want to bring a rebellious, unapologetic attitude to the electronic dance music world and depart from the posed and composed DJ image. It’s about authenticity and pushing boundaries, not following trends. EDM Texas: What have been some of the most significant lessons you've learned as a musician? Party Wolfe: You must surround yourself with genuine and supportive people in the industry. It’s crucial to ensure that those you collaborate with have your best interests at heart, as I had to learn the hard way. Stay true to your artistic vision, even when commercial pressures arise. It’s tempting to chase trends or conform to what’s currently popular, but I’ve found that authenticity is far more rewarding in the long run. EDM Texas: Your music demonstrates a unique blend of genres! Can you delve deeper into your musical background and the influences that shape your distinctive sound? Lucas DiLeo: I started as a hip-hop and trap producer when I first got into music production. My brother was a rapper, so I delved deep into sampling for about five years. Then, I attended my first music festival and experienced electronic music for the first time. It opened my eyes to the full creative potential of this genre. I began making dubstep in 2017, allowing me to explore various genres like house music. Although dubstep is my primary focus due to its success, I also experiment with lo-fi and other interesting genres. EDM Texas: You are determined n to cultivate a unique culture around your music! What drives this commitment and influences your creative process? Lucas DiLeo: I love music so much that I want to spread it to others and infect them with my passion, and if I can do that for someone else, that’s my commitment. I enjoy stepping outside the box and exploring genres rather than sticking to one. EDM Texas: You’ve been producing music for almost a decade with unwavering dedication! Can you share some insights into your journey as a music producer, including any challenges you’ve faced and how your craft has evolved over the years? Lucas DiLeo: Finding reliable sources to learn music production was initially challenging. I enrolled in a production school to get certified, but it was expensive and provided only basic knowledge. Teaching myself could be more effective if I could access the information. I taught myself many techniques, which I still use today. Self-teaching allowed me to navigate software better and enhance my creativity and efficiency. I enjoy helping others by providing tutorials and sharing insights on my social media platforms. It’s all about spreading knowledge and supporting each other in the music community. EDM Texas: Your presence in the electronic music scene, especially in Austin, has been significant! Can you discuss your impact on the local EDM community and the memorable experiences you’ve had performing or collaborating? Lucas DiLeo: Moving to Texas was the best decision I’ve made. One of the most memorable moments was winning the Baked Up DJ competition in 2020, which introduced me to the local scene. Networking through the competition led to opportunities like playing at their fun boat parties. Additionally, the underground scene here has been wild. I once DJ’d on a bus at 3 AM - the energy was amazing! EDM Texas: You’ve performed at prominent venues and events catering to bass music fans! What are some highlights from your experiences performing at these venues influencing your music and interaction with your fans? Lucas DiLeo: After playing numerous shows, I’ve found that I now create my electronic music and dubstep with the live audience in mind. Crafting my sets to resonate with the crowd allows me to connect with them on a deeper level. I aim to incorporate at least three genres into my sets to keep the energy fresh and diverse. It’s rewarding to have people approach me after a performance and express how a particular song or remix I played impacted them. My music having a positive effect on someone’s life drives my passion. EDM Texas: You’ve mentioned your vision for your music and desire to inspire the next generation of artists. Can you elaborate on what this envision entails and how you inspire aspiring musicians to pursue their passion and creativity? Lucas DiLeo: I try to demonstrate that you can find your passion in something that doesn’t feel like work. Music allowed me to pursue my dreams and passion effortlessly. I aim to inspire people and encourage creativity and cultural evolution through my music. Change is inevitable, and you embrace it and appreciate what’s different. I hope to inspire others to pursue their dreams, especially in music, as everyone’s journey is unique. You never know when a song on your hard drive could change your career. It’s easy to overthink things, like mixing and mastering, but most listeners care more about the overall feel of the music. Giving people a chance and showing that practice and hard work are important lessons I hope to communicate. EDM Texas: Can you take us back to your early days as a raver and how those experiences shaped your journey as a DJ and influenced your career in electronic music? KillaWattz: I started raving young when I was around 16 or 17. I attended a few raves in Abilene where a group brought Dallas artists. I also attended EDC Dallas back in the day! When I was 24, I started organizing events in my hometown since no one else was doing it. With connections from the Texas rave scene and attending festivals, I began booking artists. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic halted gatherings, it led me to pursue becoming an artist myself as I was inspired by the artists I brought home to Abilene. EDM Texas: Who are some of your key musical inspirations that shape your unique sound? KillaWattz: I appreciate a wide range of genres! I’m inspired by old-school Tiësto, which influenced my electronic style. PhaseOne is also a major inspiration, but I also draw inspiration from hip-hop, like $uicideboy$ and various other artists. EDM Texas: Your journey as a DJ is tremendous, as you’re signed with the renowned DFW label, Sounds From Below! Have there been some pivotal moments with your time there and what does it mean to you to be a part of such a prominent Texas label? KillaWattz: It’s great because people already know my DJ name and associate it with Sounds From Below. They recognize me and say “Oh, you’re one of the guys from Sounds From Below! We’ve heard about you and follow you on social media!” One of my favorite experiences with them was working at the Nova Music & Art Festival. I collaborated with the team behind it and through the label’s support, I involved my collective, Zodiac Vibez, in curating the Nova Music & Art festival. It’s been a fantastic opportunity! EDM Texas: Your mixing style is often praised for its eclectic blend of genres, transitioning from house music to dubstep and melodic techno! How did you develop this unique approach to mixing and what do you believe sets your live sets apart from others in the scene? KillaWattz: I deeply appreciate the entire spectrum of electronic music, from Detroit house to techno! I want to share my inspiration with the audience through selected songs when I'm on stage for an hour. I use Ableton to create remixes and add unique sounds to different tracks. This way, when I mix live, the audience hears something exclusive. It’s exhilarating, especially having the right equipment like CDJs and a controller board. My favorite part is reading the crowd and tuning into the venue's vibe. Whether it’s a large festival or an intimate gathering, I love getting people moving with the music. EDM Texas: You’ve been dedicated to hosting shows in Abilene and fostering collaboration between artists from DFW and other parts of Texas! Can you tell us more about the importance of these local events and how you believe they contribute to bridging the gap between different music scenes in the state? KillaWattz: I’m passionate about providing a platform for artists to showcase their original sound and music, especially those from our region. Here in Abilene, with three B1 colleges and an Air Force base, there is a vibrant community hungry for diverse and original music. The local scene is currently dominated by country music, but I aim to change that by introducing electronic music to my hometown. It’s my way of giving back to the community where I was born and ensuring that the culture thrives even after I’m gone. So far, the response has been incredible, with people of all ages attending our shows and expressing appreciation for bringing something new to Abilene. Despite the city’s heavy metal scene, I’ve introduced dubstep and other genres and slowly expanded people’s musical horizons. EDM Texas: What is your vision for expanding your reach within the state, and what do you hope to achieve to influence the Texas EDM community? KillaWattz: Primarily focused on Abilene, we’re now connecting with West Texas and collaborating with collectives like Sound Culture Entertainment in Midland. In Texas, everything is spread out with distances of four to five hours between cities, which makes it challenging for some to attend events. That’s why we’re dedicated to bringing the music closer to home. In Abilene, there is a mindset of traveling to Dallas or Houston for music events, but I believe we can create the same experience here. We shouldn’t have to travel when we can bring the music to our doorstep. The key is finding the right venue, and we’re working on acquiring our own space. With Zodiac Vibez, we want to establish a home base in Abilene while collaborating with other areas. As an artist, I work with Sounds From Below and expand beyond Texas, however, I recognize that it’s not just about me - it’s about the entire team. They contribute ideas, inspiration, and the drive to realize our vision. Together, we’re not just talking about making a difference - we’re actively pursuing it! The last Eclipse Festival was held seven years ago in Oregon, in the ideal location along the path of totality. In 2024, the place for ideal viewing of the eclipse is Burnet, right in the heart of Texas, north of San Antonio and west of Austin among the central plains. The Oregon Eclipse was hailed as one of the best American music festivals of all time, and now the international coalition of 13 event organizers are back to do it again. Can they create the same magic with the Texas Eclipse Festival? Among the 13 are the Berlin-based art and event collective Bachstelzen; Cosmic Convergence, a transformational festival organization in Guatemala and Austria; Earth Frequency, a festival out of Australia, and many more. Our Texas overlord, Disco Donnie is hosting this coalition, and we can expect much more than just a music festival with all the collaborators bringing in different experiences. With Austin quickly becoming a tech hub, the festival will showcase new developments in tech and digital spaces. From the NASA center in Houston to the new SpaceX locations outside of Waco, Texas has deep roots in the space world, and provides opportunities to learn about the industry's history and what lies ahead. Seven astronauts will be in attendance, along with NASA engineers, AI Professors, leaders in sustainable design, and much more. In the consciousness, health, and wellness section, the great Paul Stamets and Dr. Pamela Kryskow from the Psychedelic Association of Canada will be giving a talk. Immersive art installations will also bind the festival grounds together, with different vibes and worlds created by artists. Wandering through a festival is a major part of the experience, as it creates opportunities for conversation and moments of wonder and amusement.  Among the visual and interactive artists are Alex and Allyson Grey, the visionary psychedelic artists, and Android Jones, the celebrated digital artist behind the visuals of artists like Shpongle, Tipper, and more. He is beyond just a VJ and is a leader in multimedia psychedelic art today doing projection mapping installations at festivals like Burning Man, Lightning in a Bottle, and many more. Among the EDM community he is as much a headliner of the festival as LSDream and Zeds Dead. Texas Eclipse Festival Stages The Lone Star stage is dominated by funky groovy jam bands and electro-instrumentalists, like the incredible String Cheese Incident, who I have seen many times at their annual residency at the festival Electric Forest. They and groups like Oteil and Friends will be fully instrumental, and have, in my experience, brought a tremendous and different energy to typically electronically dominated music festivals. On the other end of this stage's spectrum we have acts like Big Gigantic and The Floozies who have a much more electronically influenced sound, with CDJs, MIDI boards, and laptops right alongside drum kits, guitars and horns. Make sure to catch this stage at least once a day and see if the funk isn't a fresh breath of air. The Eclipse stage sets the Bass genre in its rightful place among the top billing. With bass subgenres like freeform and liquid among the most popular in Texas, a stage hosting the likes of Liquid Stranger, Subtronics, and Of The Trees, will be the largest musical draw for the locals. One of the undisputed highlights of this stage is Barclay Crenshaw, the true name and new project of the legendary dance music producer, Claude VonStroke. Under the new project, Crenshaw has been exploring bass, dub, jungle, funk, and hip-hop. With the ability of a veteran DJ and producer, this is an unmissable set. The Sky stage hosts the main collection of house, techno, and dance artists. One of the oldest and most popular sections of electronic music, icons like Paul Oakenfold and psytrance pioneer Goa Gil are two of the anchors of the stage. Desert Hearts and Bob Moses are among some festival favorites of the newer generation that will be drawing the dance crowd in. The Sun is our psychedelic stage for the festival. Top Psychedelic and Trance artist, Captain Hook out of Israel brings experimentation with analog equipment and live elements into his production, while the Russian born Perfect Stranger (also out of Israel) with a techno-influenced psytrance sound. Psytrance is much more popular in Latin America and Europe than in the United States, so this stage will show some love to the trance community here, and allow the rest of us to explore the genre in a live setting. The Moon stage is a mix of eclectic bass genres like the lineup brought by the label Deep Dark and Dangerous out of San Francisco, electronic instrumentalists like Josh Teed, and the Australian party starters, Mood Swing & Chevy Bass. Deep Dark and Dangerous is one of the best young record labels around with an impressive stable of bass artists. They are bringing Truth (their founder), Abstrakt Sonance, Khiva, and one more yet to be revealed. Ivy Lab and potions on this stage round out some of the best of the underground bass hosted by this stage. all:Lo Collective out of Denver will be there with their blend of hip-hop and sound system cultures that they use to create downtempo bass and lofi hip-hop. This is the stage of surprises, with the most genre-eclectic lineup of the festival. Drop by the Moon stage at any time and you might find your new obsession. The Earth stage appears to have the most instrumentalists not in the Jam Band category that most typically accompanies electronic music festivals. Acts like Fanna-Fi-Allah, who have brought Sufi Qawwali music to the global stage, has two sets. There is also the solo instrumentalist Kr3ture out of southern California producing melodic bass, and Plxmtrees, the chill hop/lofi side project of the electronic artist K+Lab. Elephant Heart is interesting, a collaboration between Jason, acclaimed producer/instrumentalist, and Victoria, a powerful singer and songwriter. I love seeing dance music with live vocals and instruments so they are right up my alley. There's even Atash, a Austin-based superband with elements of Jazz, Arabic, Classical, and boasting a global lineup of musicians. Another Austin-based act here is Vincent Antone, who I had the chance to see in Austin recently and plans to bring the high-energy funk. Four days and four nights of some of the best and most cutting edge music in the world, as well as the immersive arts, tech and science exhibitions, means you'll have any experience you choose. Race around from stage to stage catching every set on your list or wander through the grounds soaking in the experiences. Spend the day going deep with tech or space before going deep in the crowd with a DJ you've never heard of. Start your morning off with yoga and guided meditation then attend a lecture on psychedelics in medicine. Its the ultimate pick your adventure, or let your feet carry you to whatever the festival picks for you. This festival is unmissable, so make sure to get your tickets and camping passes all squared away as soon as possible. The bigger your group the better! We had a lovely conversation with Raddix himself as we explored his captivating musical talent, versatility, and innovation that continues to capture audiences across multiple genres. Grammy’s Achievement EDM Texas: Your induction into the Grammys/Recording Academy last year is remarkable! Raddix: Thank you! I found a cool niche in the electronic music scene by not fully embracing one particular style but rather mixing and matching various genres. I’ve connected with people in the hip-hop, rap, R&B, pop, and alternative music communities. Fortunately, that has allowed me to build a network that allows me to collaborate across these genres. A couple of years ago, I encountered some prominent Texas rap artists. I noticed their management’s involvement with the Grammys, which intrigued me. I wanted to be a part of it, as I felt that the electronic music community lacked representation in such prestigious circles. I believe that the genre needs more representation, and I wanted to be a voice for the electronic music community within that space. Challenges & Milestones EDM Texas: What were some challenges, milestones, or things you have learned that led to this achievement? Raddix: Summing it all up is challenging! I’ve been making music for about twelve years, but my entry into the industry, so to speak happened around seven years ago. From what I’ve learned, it’s about finding the right key players to form a team and bring a dream to life. In the electronic music world, opinions are mixed; people are 50/50. Some prefer instrumental tracks or minimal voices, while others love singing along to lyrical songs. I feel more involved as a listener when I can sing along at concerts while also combining it with headbanging and other expressions. The diversity in preferences is interesting and adds to the richness of the electronic music experiences. Global Collaborations EDM Texas: Your collaborations with superstar performers around the globe are impressive! Can you share some insights on how these collaborations came about and what you’ve gained from working with such diverse artists? Raddix: Many of these collaborations usually happen because we share a love for the same kind of music or randomly stumble upon each other while immersed in music-related activities! It’s fascinating how encounters with big artists can lead to discovering shared fandom or admiration for each other’s work. For instance, in the past year, I collaborated with Jason Leech who’s a musician gaining significant popularity in the US. He is known for playing the keyboard and even stacking multiple keyboards on top of each other! Our commonality was our shared status as live performers. In the electronic music world, showcasing additional elements to live performances is captivating for both listeners and artists. Another example is Dorrough from Dallas! He was quite popular in 2008-2009 as he has created amazing work. These chance encounters and shared interests form the basis for many of the collaborations that enrich the music scene. Energetic Live Performances EDM Texas: You’ve also had the opportunity to perform at numerous notable festivals, including Lost Lands, Dancefestopia, Foam Wonderland, and so many more! How do you approach each festival, and what do you believe sets your live performances apart in the minds of the audience? Raddix: During live performances, I aim to take the listeners on a complete emotional roller coaster, tailored to the venue but often following a general energy flow. For example, I may kick off with an intense start and blend melodic elements with heavier beats. Then, transition into progressive house, future bass, and maybe even some bass house. Towards the end, I will finish off with a bang and create a journey where people go from going hard at the beginning to experiencing a range of emotions and finally letting loose in a party atmosphere. I embrace the role of frontman and draw inspiration from the iconic moments of rock stars like Freddie Mercury with his fists in the air and commanding presence! I aim to bring that rock show energy to our electronic music performances and create a sense of excitement for the audience. While I am the frontman, I also have a tour DJ who collaborates with me. Managing vocals, being behind the decks, and being on the stage simultaneously can be challenging, so having a dedicated DJ works well. Sometimes, we even introduce additional elements like the electric guitar, a drummer, or collaborators joining us on stage for a truly dynamic and engaging live experience. Raddix On Adapting to Audiences EDM Texas: Your talent has graced a diverse range of events and festivals! How do you adapt your performance style to suit different types of audiences and events? Raddix: I’ve positioned myself in a great spot where I blend various genres and provide flexibility in my performances. Whether it’s house music for a house crowd or heavy dubstep for a dubstep show, I have it all and everything in between. There have been instances when I performed in a new city and sensed that the crowd was not vibing with a particular genre. In such cases, I quickly adapted. Once, I even asked the crowd directly, hopping on the mic, and asked “What do y’all want to hear?” They’re like, “We want house music!” and I effortlessly switched it up. The crowd vibed out and it was a great atmosphere! EDM Texas: Is there anything else you would like to let our audience know? Raddix: My debut album AFTER DARK was just released a month ago! This album is a mixture of all my favorite sounds that have inspired me over the years. This album includes all original vocals and production alongside my sound engineer, Adrian Rich. We have compiled songs with rock, blues rap, R&B, and electronic music influences creating a one of a kind and truly unique album listening experience. It is now out and available here. BuckTen’s Musical Journey from Louisiana to Texas EDM Texas: Can you take us back to your beginnings in Lake Charles, LA, and share how your early experiences shaped the artist you are today? BuckTen: I’m originally from Lake Charles, but I’ve moved a lot in my lifetime, so I would say it all began in Mandeville, LA! During my senior year of high school, my buddy introduced me to DJing using a tractor S2 controller, and he would always bring it over to my garage.  With just one speaker, he taught me how to mix on it, exploring genres like deep dub and artists like J.Phelps, 50 Carrot, and more. Eventually, I became proficient at DJing and after a while, I started to think about how to elevate it to the next level. Initially, it was pretty intimidating since I lacked any musical background. From there, I got a piano and started learning to play simple melodies as well as my favorite songs. That was the big hurdle - making music when I had no clue what I was doing! EDM Texas: What were the musical influences or moments that sparked your passion for creating bass music? BuckTen: I saw Liquid Stranger live and it was a significant experience for me, along with attending various festivals. His genre of music is what kept me moving in that direction. I used to listen to a lot of melodic bass artists that immersively drew me in and I appreciate both the pretty melodic and heavier stuff, which is where I find a lot of my inspiration. EDM Texas: Your journey in the electronic music scene has seen you grace stages at notable events like ZOOLU, Independence Festival, and Buku Music & Art  Project in Louisiana! How have these performances contributed to your growth as an artist, and are there any particular performances that stand out as a stepping stone in your musical career? BuckTen: I believe the Buku & Music Art Project was the most significant for me, as it was a capstone moment in my career. It marked my inaugural major music festival performance, and it turned out to be with my best friend, Don Peyote. He’s not just a close friend but also the one who initiated me into production and guided and aided in crafting my initial songs. I appreciate that he recognized and liked my music and I’d like to express my gratitude because it has significantly benefitted me! EDM Texas: You recently made the move from Louisiana to Austin, Texas! How’s the city treating you so far? BuckTen: Over two years ago, I was living in Sulfur, LA where there isn’t that much to do, especially when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. With limited friends and motivation, making music felt challenging. The isolation was tough and except for Don, I only had a few friends. Moving to Austin was a significant leap and establishing a new life and friend group here was a journey. The growth from there to here, however, is remarkable because, despite the initial “new kid” factor, the opportunities in Austin are vast. In my experience, there is a collaborative spirit, and people are eager to work together and uplift each other. This is precisely what I sought by moving here - finding a like-minded crew with shared goals. EDM Texas: How has the location change influenced your creative process and the evolution of your sound? BuckTen: Touching grass every now and then is refreshing! I used to live in the middle of nowhere, with limited options for entertainment and inspiration. Austin changed that for me. The city offers so much to explore, with numerous friends and collaborators. Hanging out with talented peers has enhanced my skills, with many teaching me valuable lessons. I’ve ventured into new musical territories since living here, inspired by outings where I encounter new music or unique scenes. There’s more to explore in Austin, providing ample inspiration! BuckTen And His Genre-Defying Productions EDM Texas: Your musical portfolio showcases a remarkable diversity, ranging from drum and bass to serene, melodic dubstep! Can you walk us through your creative process when approaching different genres? BuckTen: My approach varies depending on the project. There isn’t a single method I stick to when making music. For instance, if I create a heavy dubstep song, the next track might lean towards something melodic, soft, or even drum and bass. I constantly avoid repeating the same style to keep my production diverse. When developing my own sound, I resist staying confined to a specific genre. Interestingly, I’ve received advice from more established artists suggesting that creating the same song repeatedly is the key to making it big. However, that approach doesn’t align with my preferences. I enjoy being diverse - my sets cover a wide range. The unpredictability, not knowing when comes next, adds to the fun and is something I find crucial in my creative process. EDM Texas: How do you approach each new release to ensure it pushes the boundaries of your production skills? BuckTen: My secret sauce involves mixing and mastering. While I can get my songs about 95 percent there, the final touch to achieve that industry-standard sound comes from my mixing and mastering engineer Sean Tessier.  He’s highly influential in sound design, and sitting in the same room, and watching him transform my songs from a B+ to an A+ grade is truly enlightening. Working together, we identify subtle mistakes that might go unnoticed during repeated listens. Having an external perspective is crucial to combat ear fatigue, which can obscure things you might miss.  This, for me, is the essence of my process. Additionally, my friend group plays a significant role, as we share projects and each member contributes their unique talents. For example, I may not excel in writing melodies, but my friend Sean does, leading to the creation of impactful songs. Another friend of mine, Lucas is a pro at production speed, as he sends me ideas that I can readily hop onto. It’s a collaborative effort where each friend inspires the other. Without them, I wouldn’t have produced half the music I have now. Memorable Experiences EDM Texas: Your recent performance at Freaky Deaky 2023 has garnered a lot of attention! Were there any standout moments or interactions that you found particularly memorable, and how did this performance contribute to your connection with the Austin electronic music scene? BuckTen: I’d say the most memorable moments for me while performing were those instances when I could look up and connect with the crowd. Being on the decks, I had to consciously remind myself to glance at the audience. It’s easy to get absorbed in adjusting knobs and changing settings, and sometimes that set flies by so quickly that you forget to look up! However, when I did take those moments to look up, seeing my friends, both old and new, along with managers and fans who supported me, was truly heartwarming, and I’ll admit it, a bit emotional! I felt incredibly thankful for the strong friend group and support system surrounding me. Another standout memory from the festival itself was the unexpected backstage access! My friend and I positioned ourselves right behind the stage during Of The Trees’ performance, soaking in the experience of hearing our favorite songs played live. It was undeniably a beautiful moment! EDM Texas: You’ve also recently showcased your talent at the Half-Baked Block Party organized by Neon Native, as events like these often bring different atmospheres! Can you share insights into your performance and how it allowed you to express your creativity in a unique way compared to most events? BuckTen: Lake Charles doesn’t have a big electronic music scene as it is more inclined towards country music and hip-hop. My friend, Colton Snyder, runs Neon Native and organizes electronic music events down there. While Neon Native primarily focuses on hip-hop events, Colton always includes me in the lineup. This support is significant, as he was my first when I returned to Lake Charles. Although I typically play a mix of hip-hop and other genres, adapting to the crowd’s preferences makes it more enjoyable. As an artist, staying true to your style is crucial, but catering to the audience enhances the experience. It was fun playing different music styles that I don’t typically include in my sets, adding a unique and enjoyable element to the performance. EDM Texas: Looking ahead, what can your fans and the music community anticipate from you shortly? BuckTen: I’ve been working extensively on my music, collaborating with my graphic designer, Alex Ferrero. He played a pivotal role in my graphic design during my rebranding a few years ago for my first EP. Currently, we’re focused on creating teaser videos finalizing the mix, and mastering various projects. My goal is to release at least one song every four weeks, and I hope to release my entire collection soon. Additionally, there are numerous collaborations with friends and a plethora of remixes in the pipeline! This event became the grounding where their core leaders not only attended but also forged connections that evolved into lasting friendships, sparking the genesis of a truly unique experience. “Middlelands wasn’t just a festival; it was a transformative journey for each of us, deeply impacting our lives,” The Royal Court says. “Motivated by our experiences at Middlelands, we aspired to play a more active role in our local EDM community. This led us to participate in more local events and even host our own after-hours house parties. It was during these gatherings that our core team solidified, evolving into a family-like unit.” Charting a creative course in 2019, their trajectory shifted when they crafted a stage for the Flow Through Summer festival. Recognizing their prowess, the festival organizers extended an invitation for continued collaboration. Eager to innovate, the team embraced the opportunity but not without suggesting transformative adjustments - a tweak in timing and a reimagined name. And so, in 2019, the creation of Flow Faire marked a bold evolution in their festival journey. “Our initial plan was to launch the first Flow Faire in 2020, but the unforeseen challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic led to its cancellation,” The Royal Court explains. “Despite this setback, we’ve remained dedicated to the vision of Flow Faire. This year marks our fifth year of planning, and we’re thrilled to present the fourth edition of Flow Faire, a testament to our journey and passion.” Flow Faire is a tapestry of crafted experiences, designed to elevate anticipation and exhilerate spirits. Year after year, the team embarks on a creative odyssey, surpassing their benchmarks with each edition.
